So what happens if I get into an accident and I don't have underinsured coverage? Let's just give a hypothetical. Let's just say you were in an accident, you don't have underinsured motorist coverage, and the at-fault driver only had the statutory required minimum limits in South Carolina which are $25,000. That means that no matter how serious your injuries are, the most you would be able to recover as a result of that accident potentially could be the $25,000. And this could be, no matter how bad your injuries are, if you have a TBI, if you have broken bones, if you had an extended hospital stay, it would cap your recovery there. So that UIM insurance would allow that extra level of protection so you can get the treatment and the care you need if you were in a very bad accident. It sounds really important to have. It definitely is, it definitely is. That's the number one advice I would offer is look at your insurance policies and see if you have UIM coverage.
