DESCRIPTION:The 250th anniversary of America’s independence offers a moment for both reflection and celebration. First Peoples of the Southeast honors the enduring spirit\, creativity\, and contributions of America’s first artisans and craftspeople. \nAs part of Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026 – a nationwide initiative commemorating the Semiquincentennial – the First Peoples Project highlights the rich artistic and cultural traditions of Native Americans in the Southeast\, acknowledging the earliest culture of makers to inhabit this land. Through two exhibitions\, a series of public programs\, dance\, music\, storytelling\, and an Indian market\, the project provides a platform for understanding and engagement with Native American art\, culture and living traditions of indigenous federal and state recognized tribes in the Southeast.
